Pure Magnesite, light burned magnesia (containing natural Magnesite or sea (bittern) water) or sintered magnesia are usually used to melt in the electric arc furnace, and the melt is naturally cooled. Crystallize and grow periclase crystals from the melt. Due to the use of high-purity raw materials and low content of silicate impurities, the direct bonding degree of periclase crystals is relatively high, which can fully utilize the good properties of periclase. From the use of fused magnesia and sintered magnesia for magnesia carbon bricks, it was found that due to the erosion of slag starting from the crystallization interface of periclase, the corrosion resistance of fused periclase large crystals is much stronger than that of sintered magnesia periclase microcrystals. Electric fused magnesia is often used as a raw material for higher grade magnesium carbon refractory products.
